I was offered a position as a virtual assistant. A cashiers check in the amount of $2950.89 was sent via UPS (94055016993200946405659)to cover the costs. The job required me to purchase equipment thru an independent supplier. An invoice from the mentioned company was sent via email ([email protected]) and a deposit was requested to be sent to an account they controlled. I sent via cashiers check $2550 to cover the costs. The funds were sent from my personal bank account before the original cashiers check cleared. 2 days later my bank reported there were no funds available on the original cashiers check and I was now in the red owing that money. I am trying to recover the costs in form of a refund since no services or equipment were ever supplied. Portions of the invoice have fake info but the account holding my funds is in fact still in control of the company. I have filed a police report. My bank has verified the cashier's check is fictitious /altered. I have also requested my personal bank institution open a suspicious activity investigation on the account holding my deposit as there are multiple deposits of the same amounts on file. The question I have for the investigator into this matter would be "Why would I send $2550 dollars to a specific account from a company for equipment if I didn't think I was going to receive that equipment?" I also ask "There will be a record of a deposit in their bank account from me but no services supplied? So why would I do such a thing?" I have a customer copy and tracking number for the cashiers check I sent to their account for proof. If no equipment or services have been provided I am due a full refund of $2550.Show more...
