On Friday, May 19, 2017, I received a phone call from number 786-220-0601 from the company Sky Travel International, with a promotional offer for vacation packages to multiple resort destinations within the US, Mexico, and the Caribbean. I already had a bad experience with another company a year later denying me a vacation because I could not attend a 90-minute promotional presentation with my husband so from the very beginning I told the representatives I was single, and explained the circumstance about going through a divorce and that I’d be traveling with my two sons, 8yo and 6yo. The rep answered that was “absolutely NO problem”. The second question I had was if that program was “CANCELABLE” because of my very difficult schedule and the rep confirmed I could “cancel at ANY time with no reason”. The company also claimed there were no blackout dates.
The program cost $699.00 for a 6-day and 5-night All-Inclusive vacation to a foreign destination and taxes were about $111.84, the payment appeared as Holiday Payment and was calculated in Pesos. The rep said I qualified for bonuses: a second 6-day 5-night All-Inclusive vacation to Orlando, Florida for 2 adults and 2 children, AND an 8-day 7-night Cruise for 2 adults.
The following day, I received the form (Attachment 1) which the rep by the name Tommy Zjil asked me to sign and fax back, which I did. I also received an email with a booklet with holiday destinations attached from Carol Powers, Reservations Specialist. On Sunday, June 11, 2017, I contacted Carol trying to make a reservation for August 4-10, 2017 for the Cabo San Lucas Villa Del Palmar.
This is when this turned into a nightmare and absolute torture – the rep was non-responsive, every time when I got her on the phone, “she’d say she was very busy with other clients and she’d call me back”, and then she wouldn’t call. I became increasingly worried that something was very wrong. Also, it appeared that Carol Powers was operating from home as I could hear some background noises of children. In her email, Carol listed her number as 1-800-956-3963 but she called me a couple of times from the same 786-220-0601 number and left messages while I was away – the same number which signed me for the package. I researched the number and it shows to be a Miami, FL number, somewhere between NE 2nd Avenue and E Flagger Street, Miami, FL 33132.
In the past several days I tried EVERYTHING possible to reconcile with this travel company and get a reservation. I noticed the form I signed on 5/19/17, said “NON-REFUNDABLE”, while the reps assured me I could cancel at ANY time. But that was not the main problem, just one red flag – the main problem was I COULD NOT OBTAIN A RESERVATION for a vacation from this company. I didn’t want a refund, we need a vacation so I kept pressing to get a CONFIRMATION for a vacation in August. I had to change the dates to another week in August because the airfare tickets were all sold out for the previous dates I requested.
On Wednesday, June 14, 2017, I asked Carol to confirm the dates as soon as possible because I only had 3 flights available at lower price for these dates. On 6/16/2017 I was contacted by LYNDA CARTER of Sky Travel International, who confirmed I have to sign a document I will be attending a 90-minute presentation with my husband for them to make a reservation, saying “If you want to make a reservation, you should contact the Reservations Staff”, which was shocking, since I practically spent the ENTIRE WEEK chasing that company without result. I even took a day off on Friday, and spent the ENTIRE day calling Carol and asking her to confirm, only to play phone tag. I sent numerous emails, and was exhausted and sick to my stomach in the evening and concluded that Sky Travel International is a fraudulent company. I immediately called Chase Card Services and filed a Dispute for the $808.84 Holiday Payment charge on May 19, 2017.
I told Lynda Carter I NEVER signed a document I’d be attending with my husband and that’s practically impossible since we’re going through a divorce. I immediately requested a refund because their company was changing THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS, which they refused. I challenged Lynda Carter again, after a week-long torture, and asked her to MAKE A RESERVATION FOR US FOR AUG8-AUG15, so that we’ll resolve the problem and I never heard from her again. It is quite obvious to me that the company is fraudulent and they FAILED TO DELIVER THE PRODUCT.
From the booklet the company sent me with resort destinations, I found the email addresses of several of the resorts so I sent them a note trying to resolve the problem with them. On Monday, June 19, 2017 I was contacted by one resort staff from VillaGroup.com, LINDA SINCLAIR who said they had a contract with Sky Travel International.
I couldn’t find the company Sky Travel International on the Better Business Bureau so I filed a Report with the Federal Trade Commission, reporting the company Sky Travel International as fraudulent. FTC Complaint No. is 84994878. To this day I was unable to get a reservation for a vacation from this company, they took the money and don't care anymore.
