On 1-30-18 a pop up window locked the computer down saying that it had been infected and to call support for Microsoft help. The phone number given was 1-855-859-1700. Called the number and a person with a thick accent, similar to an Arabic accent. They informed me that when my NEW computer processed an update it downloaded more than 500 viruses and that they would need remote access to correct the issue. They left the impression they were from Microsoft. They charged me $299 to my credit card and used remote access to "correct" and "work" on my computer. I called my daughter who told me to IMMEDIATLY unplug my computer, call my banks and not to TOUCH it until she could check it. I called my credit card company (Citibank) and informed them of what had occurred. They blocked the transaction, closed my account and will issue me a new credit card. Since this was a NEW computer I had only been to my banking website (Bangor Savings Bank) and I have contacted them to put a hold on all charges to my account and we are monitoring it. Since I gave them my email address, we have changed the password and my daughter will continue to monitor my account.
I have the emails saved and will happily forward them as needed. My daughter also printed them for a hardcopy and saved all the raw information and headers. They sent me 3 emails, a bill, a "credit card payment authorization" and an email stating that they want to "inform you of the many SCAMS running in the market right now" declaring that they are NOT one and that if someone says that SysSoftwareHub is a scam than THAT company is a scam.
SHUT them down :)
